Jack of All Trades, Master of None  All too often we sit down with strength coaches to discuss their energy system development strategies and they respond by describing a range of plyometric multi-directional/bilateral sprint trainings they have in place. Plyometrics are designed, for the most part, to increase contractile speed while decreasing foot contact time. These interventions should be extremely focused. As a rule of thumb, the movement demand should not be more than five or six repetitions to reinforce and increase contractile speed--any more repetitions will limit contractile speed as the muscle begins to fatigue.
