Strength in Numbers   In Clayton, Calif., organizers hoped to attract 1,000 participants to the first 5K Run/Walk to save athletics at the Mt. Diablo Unified School District. Instead, they had to close advance online registrations at 1,221 people and ran out of the 2,000 printed runner/walker numbers before the start of the event. The benefit, which included dogs, strollers, parents, grandparents, and a wheelchair contingent escorted by high school football players, raised over $50,000. Read the full story...
